Environmental Protection Technologies

Environmental Protection Technologies came as an answer to fast developing Process Technologies. In it’s roots these technologies observe and control changes in air, water and land. From a relatively predictable environment influenced only by outside forces from space we got unpredictable environment fuelled by our own doings even against very well established natural laws. What’s more from such an unpredictable environment we need to make even drinkable water. It seems we wake-up our own forces and devils in our own backyard to work against our own well being. What a ……. liberty!

Just one example: Everyone who studied chemistry or physics heard for 2nd law of thermodynamics described by R Clausius (1854) that ‘heat cannot of itself, without the intervention of any external source, pass from a colder to a hotter body’.

According to this law our planet as entire space moving irreversibly towards highest order or simply speaking cooling down. Recent cooling down (posibly 6-10 thousend years ago) left planet devastated beyond arctic circle. If we did opposite we might be on the verge of a great invention: 'How to inhibit process of appraching zero or nothing(0) in every sense with our own …. pollution'. Average temperature on planet earth is 22oC since on nearest Mercury & Venus is >400oC, Mars -23oC and Jupiter -150oC. So, we should act fast to find a new host to satisfy our needs and habits or change nappies of our small baby planet earth in such a way that baby should remain warm (not cold, not hot and certainly not dangerous). Whoever is a mother, father or ever did change real nappies knows what it means to a baby. Baby complain with short eh...eh...eh...eh in dirty nappies just like we do now about our planet but when you open nappies if it is uncomfortable you facing real challenge with all five long wowels shaking entire household. But in our case we might experience even 6th and 7th nazal deep wovels mmmmmm or nnnnnnn.

Tap or Bottled Water ?

What is wiser: Make a high quality drinking water and flush it in toilet or suffer under plastic supporting bottle water industry (three out of four plastic bottles are still not recycled since natural decaying or life of plastic is hundreds of years almost like used nuclear fuel). At the same time our troubles with carbon footprint are not getting smaller in future (about 4,000 tons of CO2 are emitted during the transportation of bottled water from France, Italy, and Fiji to the U.S.). A few years back while I was digging in my mum’s garden I found a plastic bag. It was so well preserved that even the colours were clearly visible on it. To me and my generation the company name written on it didn’t even ring a bell at all but the elderlies had a word or two to say about it!

Most of the public water utilities produce same water quality for all domestic use. If we split the water supply system at the point of use we need to start to educate the public about taps with and wthout monsters in them. It’s annoying to know about water, every time I flush the toilet at least one thought about water quality or it’s treatment crosses my mind!
